Reducing Holiday Stress in Children

The holidays are a stressful time.

You're running around last minute trying to find the perfect gifts, you're planning out parties and you're cooking up a storm.

While the holidays are certainly stressful for most adults, they can also be incredibly stressful for children. There is a lot of pressure on them and they can often sense your frustration and stress as well.

As a result, your children may act up and have more temper tantrums. If you want to reduce this kind of behavior during the holiday season, follow my tips and suggestions below.

1.
Convince your children to stop watching television during the holiday season.
Once November hits, it seems as though every show and every commercial is dedicated to the holidays. This can add stress and remind children of the holiday when they are trying to relax and get away from it all.
2. Help your child do their Christmas shopping.

Once your kids reach a certain age, they are expected to give gifts and cards to their friends and family.

This can add a lot pressure and stress to their lives.
So help them do the planning and think of present ideas.
3.
Try to stick to your normal routine and activities.

Your lives and schedules shouldn't be turned upside-down for the holidays.
Try to keep things as normal as possible and if your child's schedule is going to deviate from the norm for holiday activities, make sure that he or she know in advance. This will reduce the stress related with the activity.
4. Keep travel light. Traveling around a lot can also add stress to the holidays.
A few quick trips to visit grandparents is okay, but long trips can be exhausting, so keep them to a minimum.

Differences Between Certificate and Degree Program

There are major differences between a certificate and a degree.

For example, someone looking to become a carpenter does not need to get a degree; they earn a certificate instead.

However, depending upon the career being chosen in a particular field, one may need a degree so as to acquire a suitable job. A degree is desirable, and in most cases, required for the most professional jobs beyond minimum wage.

Certification Explained In general, the completion of a certificate means that an individual has been trained and is now qualified to perform a specific job or has gained professional knowledge and experience in a certain area. Certification is usually only valid for a certain period of time and must be renewed to stay up-to-date with the raising standards, new trends and technology. A certificate is awarded upon completion of the training program from a vocational school, junior college or university. Certifications are common in professions such as: Construction Health care Accounting Aviation Degree Programs Explained Degree programs, on the other hand, are the study of a core topic in a specific field.

Unlike certificate programs, they have a set number of credit hours and online education course requirements that students must complete in order to earn a degree at the undergraduate or graduate level.
Liberal arts courses, such as English, Mathematics, History, and Science must be completed before students are able to take specialized courses more relevant to their chosen major subject.
College advisors play an important role in helping the students choose college courses and field of study.

Degree Type Degrees come in many levels such as, Associate, Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral levels such as Master of Business Administration or Bachelors of Arts.
An online associate degree takes two years to complete, a bachelors degree takes four years, which is an additional two years from the associate degree, and a masters degree consumes two additional years beyond the bachelors degree and so on. Depending on your field of study, some degree programs may require students to complete the prerequisites before entering into a program. A diploma is awarded upon completion of a college or a university degree program.

It is of great benefit to hold both a degree and professional certificate in some fields, especially if your major subject does not offer many employment options or allows for job mobility.

Prevention for Childhood Obesity Risks

Children are more susceptible to becoming obese.
Most of the parents would usually feed their young children excessively because they think that fat children look more pleasant and adorable.
However, doing this may become very unhealthy for the children. As early as infantry, parents should do all the measures possible to prevent childhood obesity risks.

By doing this, parents will be able to provide a healthy childhood life for their children in which they can enjoy playing with their friends and free from various illnesses that may be brought about by being obese.

The best prevention that parents can do is to make the diet of the children healthier. A child's diet is as important as the diet of the parents.
Children must stay away from too much fatty food.

They can have meat from time to time but it would still be good to let the children eat green, leafy vegetables which are rich in vitamins and minerals.

Vegetables and fruits are best for children's diet.

Of course, milk should be given regularly but never in excess.

As a parent, it is good to consult a dietitian or a health expert to determine what foods are best for your children.

One of the childhood obesity risks that children may get is high blood pressure.

It is a wrong notion to think that this illness is only for adults. Young children will be able to get this illness when their diets are very unhealthy.
There have been so many studies which proved obesity as one of the causes for early death. If not by getting illnesses associated with obesity, obese people or children will die in injury because of the lack of more capabilities to move around due to their heavy body weights. Diabetes and having high cholesterol levels are other types of illnesses that children may get by being obese or by being extremely overweight. These illnesses may also be very fatal to children when parents are not able to something about. Aside from a healthy diet, obesity can also be prevented by letting the children engage in active physical activities.

Allowing them to play and exercise their muscles is a good way for children to sweat and burn calories and fats.

There are many other known childhood obesity risks that may be threatening the health of our young children.

All parents love their children. As parents, the best way to show that we care for them is to make sure that what they eat and what they do everyday are healthy and very advantageous to their holistic well-being.

Managing Online Education Expectations - How To Avoid Disillusionment!

Every individual has some expectations in life. Most often, these are high expectations and lead to disappointment.

The same goes for the students' expectation of their degree courses; they take the course with the preconceived notion that they will enjoy its every phase, or that it will be a revelation in terms of its instruction or course content.
However, most will end up being disappointed on that front, because there is nothing very inspiring about a degree.

It only involves hard work and dedication on the part of the student.
The disillusion is more pronounced in those students taking an online degree course because they have to struggle much more as compared to a student opting for a normal degree course.
However, the long-term benefits of completing any educational qualification will fulfill the student's expectations.

Expectations in regards to the manageability of the course content run incredibly high.
The work involved for an online degree is the same as that required for a normal degree course.
However, most online degrees are difficult to manage as the students are expected to study on their own without the guidance and instruction from a teacher or lecturer.

A great deal of self-discipline is required to manage an online education while simultaneously working or looking after a family.

Time management is of utmost importance and in such circumstances, most students find it difficult to cope with the stress and burdens of an online degree. To give an idea of what exactly is involved in an online degree, one can read the accounts of other students who have gone through the experience. You will find that a number of them will speak about it in glowing terms, while there are many others who will be quite candid in expressing their inability to cope with the workload, or the lack of time to meet the deadlines or the problems they faced due to an unsupportive employer. There is always some resentment if you take up a degree course while you are employed, though this may not be an issue if you are taking the course for further advancement in your present job.

If you prepare to take this resentment in your stride, then it will not be much of a bother, and if there is no resentment, then so much the better! The best way to manage your own expectations is to approach the issue with an open mind and not to expect anything form it.
Managing to complete an online degree course along with personal commitments like looking after a family or going for a job everyday is a difficult task.
It takes a lot of effort, but if you expect it to be difficult, and yet achieve your goal, then it will give you tremendous satisfaction and a sense of achievement. If you expect the worst, maybe you will be pleasantly surprised!

Baby's First Birthday

Your child's first birthday is a landmark date, not only are they changing from baby to toddler, but it is the first anniversary of their birth.

Such a date should be marked accordingly, it will be more important to you than your child, but is a time to be cherished.
Party - When you decide to have a party, you have to choose what kind of party it will be. There are many options to choose from, including a special family dinner at home, a tea party for your baby's 'friends' (probably other parent's that you have met at pre- and ante-natal classes) or going somewhere with other parents and family members such as a soft play centre. Whichever option you decide ensure that you send informative colourful invitations to any guests along with RSVP details, ensuring that you are aware of any allergies that anyone may have.

A birthday cake with candles is a great idea and will look amazing on a photograph in years to come.
These can be specially baked or bought at the supermarket. Balloons and decorations will ensure that the venue it looks like a child's celebration, and your baby and other children will be mesmerised by them.

Gifts - Baby Gifts can be extremely difficult to buy. Baby does not yet have a preference as to what he/ she would like.
But special and memorable presents can be bought.
If anyone asks you, what they can buy your child for their 1st, and very special, birthday, options include: • Jewellery - This tends to be bought by those who are close to you, bracelets and necklaces make beautiful keepsakes even if they can't be worn immediately.

• Clothing - As your child is at a stage where they will be growing very quickly you will probably be grateful of any baby clothes that are bought.
Clothing may not keep forever, but if it is something special it can be passed on to siblings.
There are some beautiful children's clothes, often wonderfully gift-packed and these make pretty gifts. Ordering clothes online is a great idea.
You may want to buy organic baby clothes, or something that is made from a soft but unusual material such as bamboo for your baby to wear on this special day.
• Books - Good quality books will always be treasured.
Choose something with longevity such as an encyclopaedia, old classics such as Fairy Tales or contemporary favourites such as Allan and Janet Ahlberg's, The Jolly Postman.
• Ornaments - Keepsake ornaments such as a beautiful mobile look impressive anyone, babies love to watch them and they can be kept for future brothers or sisters.

This is also true of a nursery clock.
If someone chooses to buy your baby a money box or piggy bank for savings they should ensure some money is inside - just for luck.

• Toys - There are a number of beautiful handmade toys and educational toys to be bought. The former, such as dolls houses and wooden farm sets can be treasured for life; the latter can be played with to assist baby's development.

So after all of the preparation ensure that your child has a wonderful time.
And most importantly don't forget the camera because the day is sure to bring some memories that you will treasure forever.

Internet Privacy and the Free Lunch

As technology evolves more and more enterprises are adopting online collaboration applications within the workplace.

Not so long ago, such a practice was considered only for home users and technology geeks. Security was the main concern back then, and vendors such as RIM and its blackberry service did a magnificent job of providing an email and messaging service, which is considered secure. In fact, the platform is so secure that service providers carrying the service have no visibility of the messaging platform whatsoever.

Corporations suddenly had a secure mobile messaging platform which ticked all the right security boxes. Yes, life was simple back then.
We got up and went to work, logged onto our computers, opened the locally installed applications and accessed the data stored on the server in the back office, and got on with our day.

However, something started to change, the mobile workforce.
The notebook computer of the 2000's was the last generation of portable computers to be called a laptop.

It weighed about the same as a pile of bricks and the battery would only last for a hour, and if you could tolerate the heat it emitted while resting on your lap, you could also become sterile! The cost of a laptop computer was nearly three times that of a comparable desktop computer.
Therefore, only the top executives or elite got one, and they were seen as a fashion accessory, since everyone at the CxO level had a PA or secretary to answer or write correspondence.
Once laptops became smaller, more portable and cheaper, the VPN came along to tether them back to the office, and provided secure access to email, files and applications. The concept of mobile workforce is nothing new, insurance companies, banks and sales organisations have been doing it for decades.
What has changed is the efficiency with which these organisations operate.

The efficiency has been enabled with technology.

Today, every mobile sales person uses a notebook computer, and this has meant the demise of the branch office as the hub of collaboration. Today, entire global organisations have slashed costs and increased productivity and efficiency by having their staff operate from home, the airport, on the road, wherever.

Gone are the days where you clocked out at 5pm and forgot about work until the next day.
Technology has meant that we never really stop working, or thinking about it, even on vacation.

Fast forward to 2012, the corporate data centre is being replaced by cloud computing.
Entire data centres are being virtualized and the mobile workforce is connected to shared resources hosted on the Internet, rather than the corporate HQ.

It would seem today many multinationals have thrown caution to the wind, by embracing cloud computing and the third parties, which host their sensitive corporate data.

Organisations are supporting BYOD from employees, relaxing the security protocols, which were once in place and basically trading security for operational efficiency and ease.

What has fascinated me about this transition is witnessing the changing mindset of corporations. Going back some ten years, multinationals would not even entertain the thought of a third party managing its data, let alone, the concept of keeping it all in the cloud. Like everything, cloud computing has its merits and demerits. This article is about technological revolution and how much we are willing to compromise.

Let us look at four scenarios where cloud computing can be compromised, impacting enterprises. 1.
Corporate Espionage Today, Skype and other online calling services are being used more and more for business purposes. The convenience and costs are incredible, a video or audio conference can be setup in seconds and the quality is pretty good as well.
However, even though Microsoft, which owns Skype, doesn't record conversations, the vendor keeps all session information for quality purposes.
The vendor may share this information with a third party to improve the quality of the service. There will be a wealth of information reported such as the IP address, user name, computer equipment type, number of calls, duration and location.
So, now an unknown third party knows your IP address schema, internal and public, the types of computer on your network, which parts of the world you call and how often.
If you are using instant messaging services, then the chat conversations are also available in an unknown public arena.
Do you care? IBM recently stopped its employees from using Apple's SIRI voice application on its iPhone smartphone, since Apple would not conform to anonymizing the user session information. In a cloud environment this is no different. Even if your workforce connects to a dedicated virtual server appliance using encryption, the source and destination IP addresses are still available, and the volume of traffic per session are still available from firewall logs operated by a third party. From a forensics point of view, I know where your sales force are located on the globe, and if an increase of data activity in a specific region occurs, could also provide a valuable indicator for a compeditor 2.

Loss of Data (Intellectual Property) Let us say you move your entire CRM operations into the cloud.

You can decrease your operational costs by not having to maintain IT staff and data centres.
For your sales force, this is the goldmine, which keeps your business running. Something happens to your cloud provider, a new unknown virus sweeps through all the hosted virtual servers wiping out your data in its path. In the old days, a backup tape could get you up and running after some outage. But, let us say the provider's automatic backup and the snapshot you made in the cloud are both dead.

What then? Amazon EC2 experienced an outage in one of its data centers, admittedly it managed to restore service quite rapidly. However, ultimately you are at the mercy of the provider, if you don't have a solid local backup solution.

How quickly can you restore a local backup, do you have a disaster recovery solution which is tried and tested? 3.
Criminal Prosecution In the good old days if your organisation was suspected of any unfavorable activities, authorities needed to secure a search warrant, seize computers and you generally got the impression that something was going down. Today, under the United States' wide-ranging search and seizure terrorism laws, a third party hosting your data is obligated to open the back door into your operations, and most likely without your knowledge.
What happens to your sensitive data once, it has been thoroughly reviewed and found to have no impact on the investigation? Data is promptly deleted erased and forgotten about, obviously! This is the major reason why European companies are so slow on cloud computing adoption. The European privacy laws just don't translate internationally.

4. Privacy As the cost of Megabyte of storage becomes less and less, your browsing history, online documents and social networking connections, both personal and professional are interconnected, working in tandem to construct a profile of who you are. From the online holiday tickets you buy each year to the fishing tackle box you paid for using paypal, all the descriptions and details of your online activity is recorded and stored, forever.

Cross referenced against your business connections and activity these third parties can calculate how much you earn and even when you are paid.
The free lunch! Is there such a thing as a free lunch, when it comes to the Internet? You can be forgiven for thinking there is.

Free 5Gb of disk storage, free Internet calling, free email account, free instant messaging, all these things come at a cost, your privacy.

Who would have believed twenty years ago that something as trivial as your email address would be worth something to someone.

Targeted advertising, based on your buying habits are designed to channel as much of your spare change in the direction of the advertisers who collect, store and correlate your online activity. With a billboard on the side of the road, the advertiser doesn't know how effective the advertisement is, how many people called as a result of seeing it.
With online advertising, confirmation of success is based on a mouse click, so the campaign can be tuned instantly to be more effective. Do you care?

Technology Migration: The Trick to Surpass the Competition

Top IT organizations - especially document management manufacturers - having fluid and frequent customer communications are already aware of the actuality that, after a while, most institutions have to deal with different and certain business requirements.

This feedback gives significant information that allows these companies to redesign their-selves promptly and offer a hassle-free and risk-free migration operation from dreary systems.
But what can be the important elements associated with a successful migration process? Initially, the latest software package should safely swap the legacy, outdated product and ensure that all information is preserved.

Subsequently, the migration activity must confirm scalability and functions that meet the latest business necessities and position the organization within the ever-evolving technology market.
The difficulties of applying the new document management application might seem very intricate, but if ever the data migration procedure is conducted correctly, most post-migration hardships may be shunned. As such, transforming technology has to involve a sound approach and acceptable time and resources to assure that the innovative program will continue to support also the pre-existing business functions.

Reinvent your system or go-away forever The first move in the quest to direct business ahead involves a technical analysis conducted with the chosen document technology application company. Typically, the provider, in collaboration with members of IT team and other business areas that may be impacted with the migration approach, will establish the viability of this process. To improve the implementation process, a multi-disciplinary crew must be formed, composed of the IT personnel and at the very least one person of each sensible business area. This is the excellent approach to assure that specific functionalities don't impinge on present functions; and all the business standards are satisfied, since each section is able to provide a summary of all the functionalities used in their area to the IT team. Similarly, it is also vital to call for the Management team, as its global view of organization' needs and processes might help the migration crew to associate an over-all viewpoint of procedures associated with each of the crucial facets planned venture.

The Procedure When, extracting and importing data from outdated to the new document management system, the migration crew must look at the technical competencies of the IT personnel affected.

Of course, data exporting may well include software modifications or rely upon many other, precise tools. In this instance, the company can choose training other, internal employees or simply outsource the complete project.

Each option has its inconveniences and positives, as is realistic.

A migration undertaking to the new document management environment isn't an isolated project. In fact, one of the mistakes that most-commonly committed by companies is- "believing that migrating will mean promptly improving the software program". This hurry may establish to be a big fault, as a migration project generally evolves into a more intricate activity whereby technical strategies and details should be correctly defined. Based on this strategy, the critical factors of any migration strategy tend to be the listed below: Time: Figure-out the quantity of migrations that can be important, so as to calculate the time-span of the implementation process.
Training and organization: Establish and train the group that will be migrating, to facilitate the process of deciding the origin and state of data and the tables and fields that they should be migrated to.

As a result, being capable to accurately use the fresh software package is imperative to understand how the applications function and make the right conclusions.
Optimization: Noticeably lessen the numbers of variations in the duration of the migration activity. Evade modification of data and concepts while the project is ON, since any change might influence any of the associated parts, which in turn will adversely hinder this activity.

Testing: In a closing stage, the data in the modern environment has to be presented to thorough testing to obtain the wanted gains.

A plan must be established for undertaking tests in testing environment that's the exact copy of the current production environment whereby the new software will likely be introduced.

There's no question that application, recognized as being a variation on the latest market needs, leads to significant economic rewards that may be assessed in a short to medium-term period.
However, there are some other, secondary advantages of migrating towards a modern document management systems - which also enhances productivity levels - such as elevated business procedures and boosted efficiency, as no more effort is squandered on performing processes with outdated software package; and more inspired staff, as they are capable to improve their work with a leveraged system.

Diversifying Your Education: What Online University Fits You Best?

Accredited online universities are quickly becoming the go-to education of choice for busy professionals, working moms, or those who don't live within close proximity to a more traditional university.
If you are interested in joining the growing number of students enrolled in an accredited online university, you may be asking yourself how to choose the program that best fits your needs.
The most obvious place to start when looking at colleges and universities is location; however, that doesn't become a factor when choosing an online university since you will going to school remotely.

So what other factors should you consider when choosing a university? Things to Consider Accreditation - Of utmost importance is to find an accredited online university - not a diploma mill.
Motivated by making a profit, diploma mills are non-accredited organizations that award degrees with poor or no academic study.

They are more interested in taking your money than they are in providing you with a legitimate education or a degree that will help to further your career.
Avoid these at all costs! While the thought of getting an online degree without any of the work at just a fraction of the cost may sound appealing, it's just not worth the risk.

People found using fake degrees can be denied employment, terminated, or in some cases actually face criminal charges.
Degree - Determine the type of degree that you are looking to receive. Whether it's a bachelor's degree, associate's degree, master's degree or PhD, different accredited online universities will offer different degree programs.
You should choose a type of degree based on your personal interests and on the types of classes you would be interested in taking, as well as your educational background. Major - What do you want your major to be? Not all accredited online universities offer a full range of programs.
If you are certain that you want to focus on a specific field like nursing, engineering, politics, or accounting, it is important to know which schools offer these courses.

Once you find a school that offers your major, check to see what resources they have for students enrolled in those classes.
Look for things like the background and experience of your professors, and if the university offers career placement help after graduation.
Time - Consider the time commitment that you are willing to make for school.

Certain degrees and majors will require a heavier course load than others, while some accredited online universities will only allow you to take one or two classes per session.

If you are looking to go to school full-time or to complete your degree in a short period, these programs may not be the best choice for you. Determine the amount of time you will have after all of your outside obligations are met, including a job, family and other activities to help clarify your best option. Cost - While many accredited online universities cost less than a traditional school, receiving your education online is still a big financial commitment. Having a clear understanding of what you can afford will help you to determine the best school for you.

Take a look at each online university's information page for tuition to find out how they charge; it may be by credit hour, course or semester.

Each school may break down their tuition costs differently, so you may need to do a little math to compare them correctly.
Also take into consideration any scholarships and grants or financial aid that you may be able to receive as this will ultimately drive down the total out-of-pocket expenses for you. Reputation - Find out about the school's overall reputation.

A great place to start your search is through online university reviews. Through these websites, students are able to post their own personal experiences with the universities that they have attended.

You can read about how the students liked the programs, the professors, the grading system and more. Just as you'd read consumer reviews prior to buying a new television or car, you should do the same when you're looking to further your education.
Your choice of an accredited online university is the most important one you will make when it comes to the next steps in your education.
Find out as much information as you can about an online university before making a decision.

And never hesitate to contact the school directly if you have unanswered questions.

What Makes Algebra So Difficult For Kids To Understand And Challenging for Teachers To Teach?

At first glance this seems to be another Chicken or the Egg situation.

Are kids not understanding because Algebra is a subject that is difficult to teach or is Algebra difficult to teach because kids have so much trouble understanding it? In reality, there is some truth to both of these issues; and, theoretically, solving one will solve the other as well.

So, exactly what is it that makes Algebra so unique? Algebra is like a giant question mark in the brain of every freshman who walks into the classroom. These 14- and 15-year old students enter the classroom having absolutely no expectations of what they are going to be learning; and teaching Algebra successfully is one of the greatest educational challenges existing today.

Students in elementary school know just exactly what math was covered in each grade and what is coming next year. Addition, subtraction, multiplication,.
.

. They know. In high school, at the end of Geometry, Trigonometry, and Calculus, students can explain to you what the course was about.

But Algebra is a different kind of animal.
Too often Algebra teachers assume their students know what Algebra is, so Day One of school is Section One of Chapter One in the textbook and off they go on their unknown journey. Sadly, many students are as clueless at the end of the school year as they where at the beginning as to what they have been studying.
Some students can tell you they solved(?) equations, they factored something, and they graphed things.

Some students can actually be good at Algebra skills, but still have no idea why they were doing any of it.

That's very sad. The numerical skills required in Algebra (the HOW) are really pretty basic. It is the understanding of the WHY and WHEN that students don't get.

But is this a student issue or a teacher issue? Students issues to consider: (1) knowledge of multiplication facts is the #1 indicator of success in Algebra, yet many students enter Algebra with weak multiplication skills, (2) most students are lacking the ingrained sense of "I am smart enough" that they possessed when learning language, (3) many students have lost the persistence they demonstrated when learning to walk, talk, and read, (4) most students lack a pre-school math foundation similar to what parents provide for language skills, (5) unlike all previous math courses in which only 25% of the material is new (never seen before), the amount of new material being covered in Algebra is approximately 75% of the course which seems to be too much for them to absorb, (6) the pace required to cover so much new material seems too fast for students to absorb, and (7) many Algebra students see no practical application to their lives, so they view it as unnecessary to learn. Have I missed any student issues? Probably, but you get the point.

Teacher issues to consider: (1) the assumption that students already know what Algebra is is incorrect, (2) teachers sometimes don't recognize that the problem is weak basic skills until the damage is done, (3) the large amount of new material to be covered does not allow for proper processing but teachers do not have a choice about removing some of the subject matter, (4) some teachers are weak at task analysis, (5) a few teachers have trouble explaining a topic several ways to deal with the different ways students learn, and (6) No Child Left Behind has caused immeasurable harm to mathematics education and the learning environment.

Again, you get my point even If I missed something. In spite of all the issues I just listed, it should be noted that this "problem" has existed literally forever. The failure rate was 50% when I started teaching in 1972 and it still is.
Many attempts have been made over the years to solve these issues. Nothing has been successful. So the answer to the initial question is: we don't know. If we knew, the issues would get solved.

The Fun Way With Nerf Guns

Nerf Guns were initially developed by the Parker Brothers. It was marketed as a foam ball that can be played indoors but cannot hurt old people or babies. It became known as the world's first official indoor balls and a Nerf Gun Review could testify to that.

They are a totally fun and exciting gun toy which is totally harmless. The foam ball is made from polyester resin which eventually reacts with a compound causing the emission of gases. These gases are what make the ball soft and light.

Likewise, it is not an expensive toy as compared to other toy guns which are more expensive but does not warrant the excitement brought about by Nerf guns.

The accuracy is so much better as well especially if the player has a good aim.

The rate of at least 2 rounds per seconds depending on the type of gun also gives it a high rate of fire.

In addition, it is especially suited for a surprise blitz attack on your opponent.

The materials are also highly sturdy and durable that even a strong pressure on the gun would not cause it to break or snap.

In addition, there are no small materials that could be easily disengaged from the toy making it a safe option even for younger kids.
Refill packs for the foam balls or darts are also available and can be easily bought if you want to have more ammunition ready.

So this makes it a better option than other toys which have a limited supply of ammunition. In addition, it could appease the children's curiosity as well as that of the adults on how it feels to shoot a gun. Although this is not an educational toy, it could be considered as such because it would tend to teach children how to handle guns in a playful manner and without being hurt. They are also not limited to a particular age group.

In fact, anybody could enjoy them from kids as early as 4 years old to adults.

Likewise, these toys could be a fun game for at least two people who do not belong into the same age group. Accessories for the Nerf Guns are also available. These are best for those people who love playing with Nerf Guns and would want to accessorize themselves to totally feel the part. Ammunition belts and caps are just a few of the things that you could accessorize yourself when playing with them. Moreover, Nerf Guns come in all shapes and sizes depending on your intentions in playing with them. Some guns come with just at least 6 ammunition storage within the gun while others have up to 20 darts or shells within them.

Also, the they provide varied choices depending on the age groups who are going to play with them.

Nerf Guns are truly a fun and exciting game that you can play with anyone.

It allows people to have a free hand with shooting but at the same time enjoy it without hurting anybody.

10 Tips to Quickly Creating a Healthy Lunch Your Child Will Eat

Getting everyone out the door, dressed, teeth brushed, and lunches packed in time for school (or grandmas or daycare) can be a real challenge.

Often times packing a lunch is an afterthought. Some parents reach for easy items that are prepackaged and marketed for children, but these contain empty calories with little nutrition. Your child will feel better and have more energy and focus during the day when eating nutritious whole foods, rather than processed snacks filled with additives and preservatives. A banana is just as easy to grab as a bag of chips, and even comes its own compostable wrapper.
Here are a few tips to create healthy lunches you and your child will feel good about.

..
1.

Know the rules. Be mindful of school policies regarding food and waste.

Many classrooms are "nut free" due to potential allergies, and some are kosher based on school philosophies. A growing number of schools are becoming "waste free", meaning a lunch that generates no garbage.
2.
Let your child choose his lunch box or bag.

Give options of those that are safe (PVC, lead free) and allow him to pick. Children are more excited when they are proud of their lunch boxes and are also more likely to remember to bring it home.
3. Ask your child what he likes in his lunch. You can take him shopping and let him choose the fruit and kind of bread or spreads he likes.

Sit with your child and plan the week of food items. Giving choices empowers your child.
4.

Organize the lunch gear.

Have a place in your kitchen where you can have all of the boxes, bags, napkins, storage and drink containers in one place so you can find what you need easily.
5. Stock and organize the refrigerator and pantry will healthy options.
Be sure to always have a variety of fresh fruit and veggies, whole grain breads, healthy spreads, cheeses, and drinks that you can choose quickly. Designating an organized area for lunch and snack items in your refrigerator and pantry, allows you to see and grab quickly. 6. Read labels. Some prepackaged foods are better than others.

Items such as cheese sticks and unsweetened applesauce are quick healthy items.
Choose items without unhealthy ingredients such as trans fats and high fructose corn syrups.
7.

Offer variety, but not too much food. Remember portion control.
Do not overwhelm children with too much food. Seeing various colors and textures is exciting for children and also means they're getting a variety of nutrients and vitamins.
8. Reinvent left-overs.
Dinner's left-overs can be packed while cleaning up the night before so you're ready for school in the morning.
Put a new twist or spin to make it appealing.
Tortellini from dinner can be put on a skewer and packed with sauce, or grilled chicken can be wrapped in a tortilla. 9. Prepack and prep when you have time. Many parents do not have lots of time to prepare the lunch in the morning.
If you have time in the evening use it to cut and clean fruit and veggies, prepare dips, portion servings and make a sandwich or wrap.

10.
Provide a "treat".
Everyone likes to see something special and have something to look forward to.

Whether it's a cookie you baked together, favorite trail mix, a sticker, a picture, or a silly note it can remind your child of home.

How to Apply to Online Colleges

Applying to an online college is comparable to arranging travel plans: You still go through the same process as you would with a brick-and-mortar agent, but with the added flexibility that the Internet brings.
Online colleges bring the admissions department to your doorstep, letting you get your paperwork arranged without setting food on campus.

Here's what you need to do to get into one of these colleges: 1. Make a to-do list Check the college's admissions page and see what paperwork you will need to submit and when.
In most cases this will be straight forward, but some degrees may require letters of recommendation or physicals.
2.
Send in an application This will require some common personal information on hand like your address and date of birth as well as your academic history and planned course of study. If you need to include an essay, write it beforehand and paste it from your word processor.

3. Start the scholarship and loan process Begin by filling out the FAFSA form, the U.

S. government's universal form for financial aid.

Make sure to include the school code for the college you want to attend; if you have already filled out the FAFSA, you can go back onto your account and add a school code.

It takes about two weeks for the school to receive your financial information once you've made this change.

4.
Request transcripts and test scores For previously credits to be applied to your current degree you will need to have official transcripts sent from the institutions you attended.

This will almost always require that a written request be mailed to the college.
Often getting proof of high school graduation will only require a phone call. If you earned concurrent credit by taking a college course through the high school you will still need a transcript sent from the participating college.
Many colleges will also require ACT or SAT scores. Like transcripts, these will need to be sent by the testing companies.
If you have not taken one of these tests, you can sign up for a local test from their websites.

5.

Talk to your advisors Once the college has your financial and scholastic information you can start working out what you will need to take and how you will need to pay for it.

They will help you arrange your education to meet your specific needs.

4 Tips To Dress Your Flower Girl In A Wedding Ceremony

In a wedding, everything must be perfect. Your wedding dress, the wedding cake and the wedding reception should be well taken care of.
The guest list should be finalized and the invitations must be sent out weeks before the big day. What's next? Why not take care of one of the most unstable part in your wedding? Not the groom I hope, but the flower girls.

There are weddings which only require one or two flower girls and there are some which require more than that.

Flower girls are usually between the ages of 4-8 years old. And we all know that these little angels are in a fragile period wherein tantrums and moods swing circles faster than a pendulum.
So, let us take a look at the things you need to consider in order to dress your flower girl or girls in a manner wherein they will be comfortable and pretty.

Fabric This is the first consideration.
You don't want the kids' dresses to be too lacy, stiff or heavy.
Kids have a patience span less than a foot long and making them wear dresses wherein they will be uncomfortable after 10 minutes will not help.
You have to give them something that they could wear comfortably without itching constantly.
It should also be wrinkle free as kids tend to just slump anywhere when they feel tired or restless. TIPS: Cotton fabric with organza lace on top would be a nice combination. Weather It is understood that flower girl dresses are also designed in conformity with the whole wedding entourage.

But with the flower girl dresses, it should be given some consideration.
If it's a summer season, a spaghetti-strapped dress would make a lot of difference to young girls.

The type of shoes and stockings also need some looking into so that the little ladies will still look elegant but comfortable.
TIPS: During winter season, it would be great if the flower girls can have a long-sleeved bolero to wear over their dresses.
This way, they stay warm without losing the fashion.

Summer season could be tricky though.
Spaghetti-strapped dresses with a short sleeved bolero could also work. The girls can wear the bolero during the reception if it's in a hotel where it can be cold at times.

Style Little girls take pride in what they wear.

They want to look like someone from a fairy tale or like the little bride.
So it is important that their dresses during the ceremonies is as near to the bride's gown as possible.
They don't have to be expensive because there are a lot of wedding boutiques that sell flower girls gowns in very affordable prices.
You can also check online for bargain prices but excellent quality.

Shoes Shoes are also part of the overall look that are sometimes overlooked.

You have to think that your flower girls will be on their feet most of the time and comfortable shoes and nice stockings really count a lot.
Choose shoes that have cushion at the back of the ankle. These cushions will prevent the girls from having calloused feet. Also choose a slightly thin stocking during summer season and thicker ones during winter.

The bottom line is comfort.
You will avoid a lot of problems and troubles if you keep your flower girls comfortable throughout the wedding ceremony. Aside from keeping them busy with their roles during the wedding, their shoes and dresses would really play an important role in keeping them happy.
The last thing you need is some girls throwing tantrums on your wedding day because their dresses are too heavy or too itchy.

Why Choose a Home Study Course?

A return to university or college is the route many choose to take, however this is not always a viable option.
For those currently working or supporting a family, the cost and time required for a university course would almost certainly prove to be prohibitive.

Alternatives are few and far between, but most convenient option offering university level education is a home study course with a respected distance-learning provider.
Distance learning is now a well established and proven method of teaching, and a home study course could incorporate a wide variety of techniques to encourage learning.
E learning via your home pc and the Internet is now a vital part of various courses.
With faster Internet access students are able to experience learning using videos, audio and graphics providing highly intuitive multimedia learning.
Learning through the Internet also means that any changes in syllabus can be made instantaneously, rather than having to purchase more expensive textbooks and learning materials. This is particularly pertinent in industries like computing; where leaps in technology are frequent and new information is constantly coming to light.
A home study course easily adapts to any changes with no hassle or extra responsibility for the individual. Distance learning is designed specifically so that anyone can study regardless of prior commitments. Time and effort is of course essential but as long as you can dedicate the necessary hours to studying every weeks it doesn't matter when or where you do so.

The other major incentive in choosing a distance learning course over a conventional college or university course is cost.
University fees increase every year, saddling people with excessive debt and increasing the chance of students dropping out under the strain.
Learning via a home study course removes all of the obstacles to self-improvement and career advancement, so that the only requirement is a passion for learning and desire to succeed.

The Magic Numbers: A New Way to Teach Math

Great Memories Asking a child to memorize the times tables is like asking them to memorize the meaning of each hieroglyphics on a cave wall.
It's the look that's somewhere between constipation and a fear of public speaking.

Though it's slightly different for each kid that struggles in math, the feeling is undoubtedly there. It's the sick, sinking feeling of being asked something you don't know and have no way of figuring it out.
A set of abstract lines and shapes in the form of numbers from the times tables.

For some, this feeling comes every day at the same time; math class.

Imagine a student that has never been taught the right way to do math. When a basic facts question comes up in one of the units, like geometry, fractions, or algebra it not only brings up these feelings, but while they are trying in vain to answer it, they can't focus on what is being taught.
When asked what 6x7 is, a great deal of time and energy is spent counting up by sixes or seventh until they think they have the right answer. While the focus is on counting sets, the teacher has explained all the details of how to solve the question.

Not only are they doing a lot of extra work mentally, they developing bad habits that often never get broken.
A good way to look at this is to imagine two students working out side in a garden.
Asking the first student what 6 × 7 when they can answer it quickly is like asking them to carry one load of dirt.

Asking a student what 6 × 7 is when they can't answer without counting six sets of seven or seven sets of six is like asking them to take seven loads of dirt.
At the end of the day the second student will have done six or seven times more mental work than the first.
Not only will they be tired and exhausted but based on our great wisdom, the solution is to give that student more work after the school day is done in the form of remedial homework.
It's no wonder some kids learn to hate math.
At this point, when a child doesn't know the answer they have three options.
The first is to contemplate going to the bathroom, a great way to get out of a tough situation and to be quite honest, a quite natural reaction.
The second is to rummage through their mind hoping for a strategy that might work even though nothing in the four years prior to this moment has. It's kind of like a frazzled grandmother rummaging through her purse at a car accident hoping to find a stethoscope to help the man with a broken arm.
It's hopeless.
The third option is to stand and look as awkward and pathetic as possible hoping a classmate will whisper in answer to them.
Why do we put kids through this? The problem is, most children minds aren't designed to remember abstract lines or shapes. We are not asking them to remember something concrete, just a bunch of random curved lines.
The number eight as it's represented with lines means nothing to them. If it were that easy, everybody would be able to memorize the Mandarin language of symbols in the same way. Somehow their brain is supposed to remember that the number of reindeer pulling the sled is the same as two circles stacked on top of each other.
Sounds crazy, but we ask very young children do some very abstract things. Here's a perfect example of how our mind works.
When was the last time you read the story The Three Little Pigs.
I bet it was at least a year (if not years) ago.

You probably have not read a book like this since you were a kid, unless you have young children yourself. In which case, you don't read it every night, at most maybe once in the past year.
But even though it was a long time ago I bet you still remember who blew the houses down in the story.
You probably also remember the name of the girl who ate the porridge in 'The Three Bears" or what kind of animal "Mary" had.

Now let's try some abstract lines.
Most people use a computer keyboard at least once a week, if not on a daily basis.

Now if you're one of those people, try to answer this question. What symbol is above the number is on top of the number 7 key on the keyboard? Is it an *, %, or $? Your mind probably looks like a very long curse word but you probably still didn't come up with the right answer.
Chances are, even if you did guess right, you're still not sure if it's the right answer.
Some things are easy to remember and some things aren't.

Asking children to remember the times tables is asking them to do something very difficult. Looking had a child trying to figure out what 6 × 7 is, when they never been able to do it fluently, is like watching a car accident. It's horrible and you can feel their pain, but you can't look away. I'm guessing it's the same look I had when my daughter asked me were all the purple color went after she drink grape juice then went to the bathroom.
It's a horrible, sick feeling when you don't know the answer.

I wanted to explain it to her using biology and chemistry concepts and make a simple but understandable analogy using marbles as molecules, but the truth is, I don't know the answer.
The only solace for children stuck in a class they are not good at or simply hate is they only have to spend two thousands hours of math class during their elementary school career. These questions, or basic facts, without question are the most important thing to learn in math. The basic facts in math are adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing using two numbers no bigger than 9.

That means questions like 6 × 7, 8 + 5, 13 - 4, and 24 ÷ 8.
If the child is struggling with math, chances are they don't know these basic facts, or they don't know them well enough.

The basic facts are included in everything in math.
In geometry, trying to find the area of a rectangle, a child will have to multiply the width and height.

When studying equal fractions, whether you cross multiply or use a different strategy, students will need to be able to multiply two numbers together.
When doing algebra you need to be able to add subtract or multiply to find out the answer for each letter.
Basic facts in math are like snowflakes in Canadian winters.

We can pretend they're not there, but the reality is, they are everywhere. The expectation of a child should be to know the basic facts with one hundred percent accuracy and to do each one in no less than three seconds.

Research shows that three seconds for each question is a benchmark for how well a child will do that math. Though answering a question in less than one second is ideal, if it's any slower than that, they are going to struggle.
Simply put, a child who was listening to instructions from the teacher will be lost when it comes to numbers that he has to count on his fingers or count sets of.

While doing this mental calculation, the rest of the lesson is lost.
They are spending all of their time in their head counting. Many kids have learned math in an untraditional and unconventional way. Imagine girls and boys as young as six and seven years old sitting in a circle listening to stories. With giggles and gasps of excitement, they listen to Munsch style stories that including them or their friends.
They hear how their mom lost it and broke the kitchen when a spider scared her or how two of their friends made a tower of books that toppled over and smashed into their teacher's car or how their brother or sister crashes a tricycle into a fire hydrant causing their grandmother to get soaked while carrying her groceries home.

You watch as this cute and friendly, but slightly delusional substitute teacher wastes your child precious math time by telling stories for no other reason than to get cheap laughs.
Then he starts to explain how these stories can help them remember math. With simple, easy to understand words he explains how they just learned how to multiply numbers, something they are not supposed to learn until grade four or five. Now they are even more excited and are hooked. They now listen as the objects turn into numbers, numbers that will be almost impossible forget. A spider become the number 8 since it's body shaped like an 8 and has 8 legs.
He also points out that every number has a color, something he says will help them later.
He says, "Can you think of something that has handlebars shaped like a 3, 3 wheels and is called a 3-wheeler? I'll give you a hint.
It's red." Every hand goes up. (He'll help them with that later.
.
. ) Now this is something adults have trouble with, especially teachers. I am a teacher and can tell you there is something deep inside of us that tells us that that we should know everything before we teach it to children. We convince ourselves that we are experts on the Fur Trade because we read a chapter in a textbook written in the 1980's.
.

.
twice. We for some reason think that we can stay ahead of children, even though we still haven't set the time on our VCR.
It's really sad that we still have a VCR.
The reality is at this point, we may not be able to keep with their learning.

Here's how it works.

One story is about Sarah's mom freaking out about a giant spider that crawls into the kitchen. She grabs a golf club and starts swinging at the spider knocking over everything in the kitchen like the flour jar and vase.
The spider crawls onto the curtains of the house. She cries out like a wild banshee, swings and misses the spider, but smashes the window. Now for those are now uptight at the level of violence taught to our young minds, please send your concerns to Bill Nye.

After telling this crazy and slightly violent story the substitute teacher begins questioning the children.
Teacher: We're going to figure out 8 x 9.

Can anyone tell me something that is shaped like an 8, has eight legs and is black? Jamie: A spider? Teacher: Nice job.

What's shaped like a 9, comes in sets of 9 and is called a 9-iron? Jesse: A golf club? Teacher: Wow! Good job.

Now does anyone remember a story with a golf club and a spider? Anna: Yeah.

Sarah's mom was chasing a spider around the house and (blah, blah, blah). It's not that she's boring, but with her first few words I know that she's remembered the story. And yes, I am the geeky substitute teacher).

Teacher: And what get's broken? (Here's where it gets cool.
) Graham: The window of the house.
(The teacher get the group to make a 'roof' shape with their hand, turn it sideways and asks them what number it looks like.
) Teacher: 7.

Right.

It the bigger picture so we'll say 70. And how many curtains are there? 2 right. So eight (spider) times nine (golf club) is seventy (house) two (window).

It seems surreal so he goes through the story again and the kids are engaged. Go ahead.
Read through it again. Pretty cool, right? Now this is one of six stories he tells for their first sit down. Question after question the kids are able to answer and seem excited about them. It's almost like they know they can't get the answers wrong. It is the first time they see connections and start to see numbers in a different way.

It's like they're not in the math class that they remember.

Now math is fun, fast and easy. Now this teacher who seems like a cross between Christopher Lloyd from back to the Future and Bill Nye the Science Guy seems to have stumbled upon something pretty cool.
I guess stumbled might not be the right word.

This way of thinking actually has a pretty fascinating history.
This book is too short to go through the entire history, here's a quick explanation.
This technique of using mnemonics, strategies for remembering things, goes way back even to the time of Ancient Greece. A simple example of a pneumonic is the word 'HOMES' for remembering the Great Lakes of North America.
Each letter stands for one of the five Great Lakes; Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie and Superior.

Another is using the phrase 'Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge to remember the notes on a musical staff or the name ROY G BIV to remember the colors in the spectrum. There are different types of mnemonic devices, though some are more effective than the others. You can connect information either using logic, like the spider is a number eight because it's shaped like an eight and has eight legs, or using the opposite of logic like a crazy story about Sarah's mom freaking out in the kitchen.

Both ends of the spectrum work well.

These math stories use mnemonics that work with kids. Because they include them, friends or family, they are wild and crazy, out of this world or magical, they trigger emotions or their senses and they are just plain fun, kids will remember them for a lifetime. Most people can't remember what they had for breakfast three weeks ago, but if they heard a story about an African elephant crashing through the wall of the kindergarten class, picking up the small blonde haired girl and carrying her off to a spray park, they would remember that story forever.

By putting numbers into very specific stories with very specific mnemonics, children as young as 5 years old can memorize the entire multiplication facts in a few hours.

Consider it takes most children spend years trying to learn them with a very low success rate (less than one in three).

Suddenly math becomes fast, fun and easy.

Is the Economy Beginning to Recover?

The nation added nearly 160,000 new jobs in October 2010, reports the Labor Department- a small, but welcome change to employment figures that have showcased months of job loss.
President Obama says that he is pleased with the report and that the monthly job growth is good, but "not good enough.

" Economists were both fairly surprised and encouraged by exactly how many jobs were added.
Forecasters had anticipated a "net increase of about 60,000 jobs" following September's net loss of some 40,000 jobs.

And, while the private sector has shown consistent job growth within the past 10 months, local, state and federal government sectors have continued to struggle. A total of 860,000 new jobs have been added to the American economy in 2010, but the job growth momentum has still been unable to change the 9.

6% national unemployment rate. Says Obama, "the fact is, an encouraging jobs report doesn't make a difference if you're still one of the millions of people who are looking for work.

" Caution to the wind, in light of October's employment statistics the nation remains hesitantly hopeful. The industries that provided the biggest boosts in employment were health services and education with a combined 53,000 new positions. The retail sector added 28,000 jobs while temp services added almost 35,000 positions.

The healthcare sector is projected to continue its growth spurt, and, by 2018 should be one of the leading industries and largest employers.
Although economic forecasters project that it may take several years for the economy to fully recover and for available jobs to meet the demand of a growing labor force, employment opportunities and growth on a smaller scale have been immensely favorable and will, to the hopes of many, continue on their upward swing.

Why Creative Games Are Important For Young Children

Growing up with creative games helps a child become more functional in today's world.

Children use games to learn.

Creative games help with moral upbringings and the creative development of the personality. They help develop the ability to communicate, gives them the feeling of cooperation and responsibility. Try to find games that are fun and that exercise their imagination at the same time.

Children love to make things for their parents or other people they love. My granddaughter lives across the street from a Nursing Home, she is always thinking of the residents and thing she can do to brighten their day. This week we made Christmas cards.
It only took blank paper, crayons, and candy canes.

She was very excited with all her hard work and filled with joy passing them out to the elderly, also she kinda likes the love and hugs she always gets.
I believe this simple act makes her a more compassionate person and learns to care about others. Creative games can be as simple as the blank paper and an idea. Give a child a great idea they will make up a new game, give you wonderful little things to cherish and teach them all at the same time. We have an arts and craft box filled with simple things like paper, construction paper, glue, glitter, ribbons, foam balls, feathers, pipe cleaners and things like paper towel rolls, egg cartons, things from around the house but it all gets used by little imaginations.
You cannot help a child be creative with all the video games and TV or cell phones.

I think these things a making our children into unruly, selfish and uncaring little people One can look in the bedrooms and see what the child does.

The children's bedding, children's accessories and toys are not put together to encourage a child's imagination or ever centered around the personality of the child but more in the video and adult world.

Faxing: A Better Way to Scan Documents

The whole world seems like it is trying to go paperless.
That's a good thing.
We all love trees and it's time to stop wasting them on unnecessary paper. A fax to email service can make a huge dent in the number of trees that are being slaughtered for paper.

Unfortunately, we already have a ton of important information on paper, and it is sitting in a filing cabinet, or on our desk etc. The stacks of paper keep growing larger by the day.
It's time to do something about it.

Most people do not have a scanner, and if they do, they do not know how to use the thing. So, the paper just keeps growing.
Most scanning companies are charging an excessive amount of money to perform a pretty simple service.
Some of them are charging .25 per page! That is crazy! Here is a better solution and almost everyone has easy access to it and already knows how to use it. A Fax machine! In and of itself it's old technology and doesn't even play well on the new VOIP lines.

Don't discount the value that is sitting there waiting to be exploited. The fax industry is not dead yet.
In fact, far from it.
The number of fax machines around the world continues to rise.
Yes, many companies have shifted to online ordering and web interfaces, but there are still a whole lot of people who rely upon this simple tool. Here is why a fax to email service can help with your scanning so easily. You already have a fax machine and know how to use it.

Plus, with a little customization you can deliver the document to the exact spot you need it to go.
What's more, anyone in the world who has access to a fax machine can assist you in the project.
When you dial your fax number (current or newly issued one) then the fax will be delivered via PDF into your email box.
You can name the file and save it wherever you want to.
You don't need to buy a scanner or learn how to use it with your new computer etc.
It can also be sent via FTP, PGP, Https and the security measures can be custom dialed to fit the harshest critics.
Save time and money by using your existing knowledge and technology with simple fax to email service. Good luck.

Retired Webkinz - Investment Strategy For Your Retirement?

Webkinz and Lil Kinz toys are becoming more popular every day.

What are Webkinz? If you have an elementary or middle school kid in your house, you already know the answer to this question.

If not, in 2006 GANZ company opened a Webkinz World web site for kids and started producing two kinds of plushy toys - Webkinz (the bigger ones) and Lil Kinz (the smaller ones).
These "cute critterz" quickly gained popularity among kids and their parents in 2007 and 2008. In 2007 GANS company started "retiring" some of their webkinz.
It does not mean however that they will not "work" any longer. Retired webkinz can still be adopted and their secret code should still work with the Webkinz World web site.

All it means is that the GANZ company will no longer produce and sell particular webkinz.

These webkinz and lil' kinz will be discontinued or "retired".

Right after GANZ announces retirement of some webkinz, that's when the webkinz community quickly jumps on buying up the to-be-retired webkinz.
The more people want to buy, the more demand grows for these webkinz and lil kinz, and they quickly disappear from the store shelves.

And, of course, people start buying just retired or to-be-retired webkinz on the Internet which results in shortage of webkinz. Shortage of these virtual pets and more people still wanting them increases the price of these "critterz".
The basic law of economics tells us that more demand and less supply drive the price for goods higher, so some of retired webkinz prices simply go through the roof. For instance, let's examine what happened to the Retired Webkinz Cheeky Dog.
Since GANZ discontinued it in Summer 2007, it has become one of the hottest and hard to find item on the market.

Most places now have it out of stock or with a very expensive price tag.

But a year ago you could easily find this plushy toy for only $11.
95 or less in many retail stores. But look at it now - PriceGrabber returns two listings for Amazon: $989.95 and $1,199.99.
That's 10,000% difference in price! Friend of mine mentioned to me recently seeing a lot of 6 Cheeky Dogs for $3,600! That's $600 per retired Cheeky Dog - not a bad deal you may think - but spending that much on a small plush toy? Even $600 is 5,000% - the numbers are insane! Another example is the Retired Webkinz Cheeky Cat.
Similar story, except the price tag is not as high yet.
You can still find it for around $200 on the Internet. It's currently listed on Amazon for $299. That's still a huge profit - 2,500% from the original $12.
Are you thinking about adding the next retired webkinz or lil kinz to your retirement portfolio? What other investments will give you such a high return? And these numbers are just after 1 year! Well, this may be a stretch.
Who knows how long the webkinz craze is going to be around and nobody really knows what webkinz are going to rise in price as much as the Retired Webkinz Cheeky Dog and Cat did, but even if the price of the future Retired Webkinz goes to $25, that's 100% return.

Not bad at all.

Finding Quality Paper Route Jobs For 14 Year Olds

Once upon a time everyone's paper was delivered by a young kid.

Paper routes were the first job you could get.
All you needed to deliver papers was a bicycle and a few hours of free time in the morning.

These days, paper delivery is handled by private contractors who hire their own delivery people, usually older folks with cars looking for additional income. That doesn't mean you can't find a paper route job for your teenager, it just means that finding the job will take a different approach.

Why A Paper Route? Paper routes are perfect training jobs for kids about to enter high school.
The responsibility of a paper route is a great test of their maturity and they can earn their own money for dates or to save for their first car or for college. A paper route is a simple job that won't interfere too much with summertime activities like driver's ed or summer classes or camps.

Finding a Paper Delivery Job Contact your local paper to find out how they handle their paper delivery service.
Most likely they'll point you toward the name of the person who hires people to do paper delivery for the neighborhood you live in, or a nearby neighborhood.

Talk to the person in charge of the paper jobs and explain what you're doing. They may be hesitant at first to hire a young person for a job delivering papers, but if you explain your purpose in giving them the job, they may be willing to parcel out a small neighborhood route.
Mention that they only need to pay minimum wage and their ears should perk up.

Convincing Your Kid They don't make 14 year olds like they used to.
Explain to your kid why you want them to have this job, emphasizing that they'll have their own money. You may want to throw in something to sweeten the pot, like if they complete a summer's worth of paper delivery, you'll reward them with a trip to a favorite spot or a little bit of money towards buying their first car.

Finding neighborhood paper delivery jobs for 14 year olds isn't as easy as it used to be, but the benefits of the job are the same as always.

The kid gets out of the house a few hours in the morning, they earn their own money, and they learn the responsibilities of having a job.

Server Colocation - Helping You to Make Your Servers Healthy

Today due to various advantages of the colocation process more and more companies are adopting the colocation process. By colocation you can put your server on a remotely located place with their bandwidth. It is being used by many companies who have a big website with very high traffic and visits. They put their machine on another location and use their bandwidth as it should be high in their case.

Once their machine is organized they send it to the colocation service provider's place and place it into their racks.
The service provider can also provide a server machine on rent if required.

In case of a rented machine the client will be given bandwidth, IP and power.

With this the client can easily access the web site like it is provided by any hosting provider.

Additionally if the clients want IT support with this the providers also have the option, this makes their offering distinct and beneficial. Server colocation process is majorly used by those business entrepreneurs and organizations that are trying to get their website up to a next level on which they are.
It includes high number of hits and they want to save their money which they give to the hosting provider. Colocation gives the advantage of having a nicely built location equipped with advanced tools and technicians to handle the issues better.

They have a quick backup facility also if required by the clients.
The power backup is also available there to manage the power failure problems if the electric supply fails.

These entire things make the server management process of the colocation provider strong and productive.

The best part of having this service is that we get a more secure and reliable storage location that may not be possible at our office locations. Another thing is the security that is the major concern of every organization that whether their business data is safe or not.
These providers have better solutions to protect our business data than that of our own.

But there is a limitation is into taking access to upgrade the server or any software.
It means it is difficult to access the server physically in that case you have to go direct to the colocation place.

Another case it that when moving to another distant location that is very far away from the service provider the servers should be moved also otherwise give them to the provider with a maintenance service.

How Skype Could Be Microsoft's Best Acquisition Ever

A few weeks ago Microsoft bought Skype for over $8 billion.

And a lot of people are trying to figure out what they intend to do with this new technology.

Marketer Jeff Valentine is hoping that they use Skype's Voice over IP technology to put them ahead in gaming.

Gigaom's Om Malik feels that the biggest reason for the deal "is Windows Phone 7 (Mobile OS) and Nokia.
The software giant needs a competitive offering to Google Voice and Apple's emerging communication platform, Facetime." The company puts it this way: "Skype is a phenomenal service that is loved by millions of people around the world," said Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer.
"Together we will create the future of real-time communications so people can easily stay connected to family, friends, clients and colleagues anywhere in the world.
" Me? I think Skype could be Microsoft's best acquisition ever made. That is if the technology is put in the right hands: small and medium sized businesses.

The secret is CRM.

And I'm not just saying this because we sell Microsoft's Dynamics CRM product.
I'm saying this because, when implemented the right way, any good CRM system will track all the communications between a company and anyone who comes in contact with that company.

So nothing falls through the cracks.

And everyone knows what's going on with customers, prospects, suppliers and partners.

The clients I know who have succeeded with CRM not only realize these benefits now but are also building an asset that will significantly contribute to their future valuation.

But there's one thing missing in Microsoft's CRM application, like many of the CRM applications on the market today.

And that's phone integration.

Easy integration.
For years my clients have asked for help making their CRM systems "talk" to their phone systems.
They want a contact screen to "pop" up when someone calls into the company (or gets transferred to a sales or service rep).

They want to be able to make outgoing calls immediately when clicking a contact name. They want to be able to record phone calls and link them to a person's account in the system, not only to keep an historical record of the call but also to sometimes cover their butts when people are trying to remember what was said.

For years the popular CRM vendors have claimed to do this.

And it can be done.

But it always involves third parties.

And it takes more resources than most of my clients are willing to spend.
The perfect example of this is Peter Koso, who is Vice President of Operations at educational software maker Lexia Learning. Earlier this year, Koso undertook the replacement of his company's existing CRM system from an older version of Sage's SalesLogix to the popular cloud based application Salesforce.

com.
According to Koso the company had "outgrown" the older product and needed a system that could handle order processing, marketing campaigns, customer service and be open enough to integrate into their existing financial system.
To accomplish this, the seventy person company found itself not only paying $125 per month per user for the Salesforce application but upwards of $50,000 in consulting fees to integrate and customize the software. And that doesn't include the time and resources spent by the company's internal project management team and employees.
This is no small investment, particularly for a relatively small company.
Many of the companies I work with who are of a similar size would choke on these numbers. But Koso gets it. He understands the long term value a system like this can bring.
And the management of Lexia Learning understands that making an investment in a great CRM system now will enable the company to be that much quicker and better in the years to come.

Which brings us to the phones.
Koso also wanted to integrate his new CRM system with their phone system.

And here is where timing is everything.
Because Koso was also looking for a new phone system at the same time.
Perfect! He made integration a priority.
Koso bought his new communications systems from Thinking Phone Networks, a provider of unified communications technology.
As good a company as Thinking Phones is, they're operating in a very competitive environment. And let's face it: today's phone systems generally have most of the same features. But Koso found that Thinking Phones offered a few unique advantages: they used the best hardware around (Polycom phones), they operated entirely as a cloud based communications provider and.
.

.they connected to his CRM system.

"I wanted my employees to connect from anywhere, even their homes.
" Koso told me. "And for that I needed both my phone and CRM systems to be cloud based and integrate with each other." And that they did.
Thinking Phones' connector to Salesforce.

com did two things he needed right out of the box.

For starters, all voice mails recorded by the new system were converted into.wav files and were able to be easily linked to a contact record.
That way anyone in the company who wanted to hear the voice mail (particularly the ones who wanted to cover their butts) could do so just by accessing the right record in the CRM system.

More importantly, the marriage of the two systems made their calls quicker. When working within Salesforce.com, a customer support rep, for example, can click on a button next to the customer's mobile or office phone number and the call is immediately placed out of the phone system. As the call is connected, the customer support rep's phone rings. The rep can then pick up their own phone and wait for their party to answer on the other line.
A huge time savings.

And a match made in heaven.
Koso got his new CRM system.

And he got his new phone system.
And they talked to each other. Almost out of the box too.
Almost. Because there is still more to be done.

Koso wants the same screen pop functionality that I mentioned earlier.

And he wants the CRM system to be able to automatically populate more data from those "quick calls", like time of call, duration, even the type of call (cold call, return call) so that his reps can do even less data entry.
Koso and the guys at Thinking Phones are at this moment putting these new features into place.
There are plenty of third party applications that integrate phone systems with CRM systems.

Thinking Phones, for example, has a connector for Dynamics CRM too.

But is anyone from Microsoft reading this? Can you see how fragmented this market is? For Koso to integrate his phone system to his CRM system he got lucky: he was able to replace his entire phone system with a new one that had this capability at the same time he was buying a CRM system.

Most of the clients I work with don't have this luxury.

And Koso had to find the right communications partner with the right application to do the job. And even that product, as good as it is, needs to be improved.
And one other thing: Koso admits he's a technology guy.
And an internal technology guy was essential for getting this integration to work. Not everyone I work with are fortunate enough to find good partners (like Thinking Phones) using good hardware (like Polycom's) and who have the internal where-with-all to connect their systems to their CRM software.
There are over a hundred million people using Outlook.

Microsoft claims there are 22,000 customers and over 1.1 million users of its Dynamics CRM product (which is built inside of Outlook in addition to having a web interface). And it's growing. Why not make Skype integration with these two products a priority? You own the software now.
Making a call from Outlook by clicking on a button? Recording the call and linking to the contact? Linking incoming calls to contact records? Incorporating Skype's video into the picture? This seems pretty easy. And the big advantage is that you can do this so your customers don't have to involve a third party middleman. And that'll make companies like Thinking Phones happier because really, do you think those guys want to be spending their own limited resources on supporting a bunch of connectors to CRM systems? Microsoft I'm sure has its plans for Skype.
And I know that tying this technology into games and mobile apps is fun for the masses.
But what about the business community? What's going to keep us using Outlook over the next ten years? Why should we choose Microsoft's enterprise applications, like Dynamics CRM, over competing products like Salesforce.
com? I'll tell you why: Skype's technology, if it's part of Outlook and Dynamics CRM out of the box, will make it quicker and easier for us to communicate with our customers. And that will increase our sales. And that's what's fun for me.

And my clients too.

Buying Skype could be Microsoft's best acquisition ever.
